In Australia, one in two people will experience a mental illness at some point in their lives, with one in five experiencing a mental illness in any year.
Despite the growing presence of mental illness in Australia a negative stigma stands in the way of offering support.
Luckily, there are amazing foundations doing what they can to educate, inform and challenge the stigma. Grow is Australia’s leading mutual help program for people with a mental illness, and they're always looking to lend a helping hand.
Grow calls for Australians to be a friend, be brave, be open, be informed and be good to yourself. Grow recognises that everyone can have an odd day, which is why they are hosting a national anti-stigma campaign, ‘Odd Socks Day’.
Grill’d Camp Hill, Carindale, Garden City, Bulimba and Victoria Point are pulling up their odd socks and getting involved for a ‘Feel Good Friday’ on the 25th of November. They will be offering anyone who visits our selected restaurants with a pair of odd socks, a free snack chips and a dipping sauce with a burger purchase. Grow will also be participating in Local Matters for the month of November across the jars at selected Grill’d restaurants, so let’s go Grow.
But that’s not all, thanks to our friends at Odd Pears we will be handing out free odd socks to the first five customers at each participating restaurant. For those who don’t know, Odd Pears celebrate odd socks, life, colour, creativity and design. These guys are more than a pretty pair of socks, they also donate $1 from every pair of socks purchased to charity! If you would like to purchase your own Odd Pear of socks visit: www.oddpears.com
Grill’d and Odd Pears are joining Grow to challenge and stomp out the stigma one pair of odd socks at a time. The offer is only available on the 25th of November 2016, so put on your odd socks for a feel good Friday! We can’t wait to see you then.
