This August, the team at Grill’d Balaclava were introduced to the work of St Kilda Gatehouse.
Unfortunately, many women are victims of abuse at a young age and placed into orphanages. This tumultuous upbringing can often lead to addiction, and later an ill-informed stigma against these women. Luckily, there are organisations such as St Kilda Gatehouse who provide a safe haven off the streets for those who have been marginalised and have life-controlling addictions.
The team at Grill’d Balaclava made their way down to this haven and participated in an information session, and then later barbequed up a storm for the ladies at the Gatehouse.
St Kilda Gatehouse took out 2nd place on the Local Matters jars and were given a donation of $100. This donation was used to help fund sewing classes, which are held every Friday night. These nights allow women to learn a skill that they can then leverage for future employment.
To help like-minded groups, come on down to Grill’d, buy a burger, get a token and help your favourite Local Matters group take out 1st place.
