We launched our new Collingwood restaurant with an insightful panel discussion from three Local Matters groups; HoMie, The Social Studio and Orange Sky Laundry about the impact they’re making in their local communities.
HoMie began with a group of friends talking to people living on the streets. Marcus, Nick and Robbie started to share these stories via their Facebook page, Homelessness in Melbourne and wanted to connect with people experiencing homelessness to give them a platform to be heard and understood. Three years later, HoMie is now a social enterprise with a community of over 50,000 people and a dedicated core of volunteers.
The Social Studio is dedicated to improving the lives of young Australians who come from a refugee or migrant background and who may have experienced barriers to accessing education and/or securing employment.
In October 2014, two best mates had a crazy idea to put two washing machines and two dryers in the back of a van, and wash and dry clothes for free. Nicholas Marchesi and Lucas Patchett, the 2016 Young Australians of the Year, founded Orange Sky Laundry – a world-first, free mobile laundry service for the homeless.
Be sure to pop in to our new Collingwood restaurant to support these awesome organisations.
